Military Families have just been punched in the face!

Military families have been punched in the face by our House of Representatives.  The House has passed a bill to be sent to the Senate that would approve a 5% reduction in BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing).

According to a recent Pew Research Report, serving in the military was “practically a requirement for serving in Congress.” As recently as the early post-Vietnam era of the late 1970s, a combined 77-percent of the members in the House and Senate had prior military service. Today, however, only approximately 20-percent of our political representatives have military experience.  This means are politicians are out of touch with the needs of military families and veterans.

Other projected cuts include cuts to military commissaries (have they seen grocery store prices)….. Cuts to tuition assistance for active duty. Veterans in Congress

According to Military by owner: They are out of touch because they are without having experienced moving cross-country every two to three years and the resulting financial hardships that come with said moves, most notably spousal employment, military families can easily discredit our representatives as being out of touch.

If this is passed through the Senate Military families will be KO’d once again………………

VA homebuyers attention changes to VA Home loan

VA loan

If you are a veteran, active duty, or a reservist prospective home buyer. Listen up Dept of Veteran Affairs has announced new changes. According to update 26-11-12 the change will affect the funding fee.

The funding fee is the amount due up front or can be financed into the loan amount on a VA Loan. The purpose of this fee is to act as a mortgage insurance for VA lenders and is intended to enable the veteran who obtains a VA home loan to contribute toward the cost of this benefit. The benefit of using a VA loan versus an FHA loan is there is no monthly mortgage insurance premium paid. This can make a monthly payment on a VA loan significantly less. Interest rates are still at record lows and sales prices are very reasonable. If you are ready to buy or want to hear more about loan programs contact me today!

Military Education assistance Book Stipend

Even though lots of changes are being made to active duty tuition assistance and the G.I. Bill, there is still good news to be heard. Virginia Military and spouses do not miss this news:
According to Military.com- Active duty services and their GI Bill eligible spouses will soon be able to get funding for books and supplies as part of the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill. Beginning Oct. 1, active duty members and their spouses can receive up to $1,000 for books and supplies, per academic year, as part of the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill. Additional benefits include reimbursement of fees for exams used for admission to colleges and reimbursement for more than one licensing or certification examination. The new change in law also affects payment eligibility, and now accounts for active duty service performed by National Guard members under Title 32. A summary of recent changes to the Post-9/11 GI Bill is available at Military.com.
